Morphy Richards CA75 Senior dry iron. For more than two decades this was the top selling iron in the UK. Available in a chrome or coloured case , over thirty million were made at the Morphy Richards St. Mary Cray factory on the outskirts of London. Although electric irons had been around for many years the model stood out for its adjustable temperature settings and green light that went out when it was hot enough , also the robust construction and American styling. Made from 1936 ( with a ceramic shell later made in metal ) with a two year guarantee , every part was available for repairs and the manufacturer supplied a " thermocouple" test jig to adjust a replacement thermostat if one needed replacing as the bi metal strip that did the work inside it would eventually start sticking and alter the temperature setting. A forty year production run shows that the models popularity hardly faltered. Gaggia’s Ailment -snapshot- The Gaggia Espresso machines have a fuse to stop the boiler from getting too hot. This usually only happens when the boiler runs dry and the steam thermostat is active. It is very embarrassing to think that I could have let my boiler run dry, but I’m sure that’s exactly what happened. I have a new fuse on order from Seattle’s Home Espresso Repair.
